Q. How do I return an ebook or audiobook early?

Where did you borrow your digital title? Adobe Digital Editions | Boundless App/Website | Hoopla Digital App | HooplaDigital.com (Web) | Kindle | Libby App | OverDrive Read (Web) | SFPL Catalog (BiblioCommons)

NOTE: All ebooks and eaudiobooks return on their own, so there's no need to return them early. They will disappear from your library account and device once the loan period has ended. If you are using BiblioCommons (SFPL Catalog) to manage your ebook loans, please wait 15-20 minutes for this transaction to take effect.

If you would like to return a digital title early to free up space or to help reduce wait times, please see the instructions below. 

Libby App

1. Open the Libby app on your computer, phone, or tablet.

2. Sign into the app with your 14-digit SFPL number and PIN/password, if you aren't already signed in.

3. Click Shelf and locate your title you want to return. 

4. Click Manage Loan.

5. Click the Return! button.

OverDrive Read (Web)

1. Go to sfpl.overdrive.com .

2. Sign in with your 14-digit SFPL card number and PIN/password.

3. Click My account, Loans, or the books icon.

4. Locate the title you want to return and then click Return.

5. Confirm this action by clicking the blue RETURN TITLE button.

Boundless Website & App

1. Go to sfpl.boundless.baker-taylor.com or open the Boundless app.

2. Log in with your 14-digit SFPL card number and PIN/password.
3. Click/tap your Profile.
4. Click/tap My Shelf. (This step is skipped if you configured your account to show My Shelf as your homepage.)
5. Click/tap Checkouts and locate your eBook.
6. Click/tap the 3 dots at the bottom of the title cover, and then click Return.
7. Confirm the return and click Ok.

Kindle Books

1. Sign into your Amazon account.

2. From the menu, go to "Your Content and Devices." 
3. Select your title and click the Actions box. When the small pop-up window opens, click Return this book (screenshot below).

Adobe Digital Editions

For ePUB-formatted eBooks downloaded from the Boundless, EBSCO eBooks, Enki, or *OverDrive platform

1. Open Adobe Digital Editions on your computer, phone, or tablet. 
2. Right-click on the cover of the title you want to return and click Return Borrowed Item. 
3. Click the Return button.

*NOTE: OverDrive doesn't support Adobe Digital Edition on mobile devices.

SFPL Library Catalog (OverDrive/Libby titles only)

1. To return an OverDrive title, sign into My Account with your 14-digit SFPL card. Please note that Boundless, Kindle, and Hoopla Digital cannot be returned through the SFPL Library Catalog. Use their respective apps or websites instead.

2. In the upper right corner, navigate to Your Account and click Checked Out. 

3. Locate the OverDrive title you want to return and click the Return now button.

Hoopla Digital App

1. Open the Hoopla Digital app on our mobile device.
2. If prompted, log in with your email address and chosen Hoopla password. (If you forgot your password, click Forgot password? in the Hoopla login area.)
3. Tap My Hoopla at the bottom of the screen.
4. Tap in the open space underneath the spelled-out title.
5. Scroll down until you see Return, and click it.
6. Confirm the return and click Return again.

HooplaDigital.com (Web)

1. Go to hoopladigital.com.
2. Log in with your email address and chosen Hoopla password. (If you forgot your password, click Forgot password? in the Hoopla login area.)
3. Click My Hoopla at the bottom of the page.
4. Click in the open space underneath the spelled-out title.
5. Scroll down until you see Return, and click it.
6. Confirm the return and click OK.
