For your convenience, there are three ways to access the most current edition of The New York Times:

  1. New York Times - Replica Version (PressReader) ← easiest access method
  2. New York Times - Onsite Access  Click the access link from a computer at the Main Library or Branches and log into your account, or get 72-hour access outside the library (see below for step-by-step instructions)
  3. New York Times - Text-only database - East Coast Late Edition (ProQuest)

72-hour online access outside the library

STEP 1. Get a remote access code from New York Times click link.

Redeem only one code during the 72-hour free access period.

STEP 2. Create an account or log in.

Create an account with your email address or log in with your email, Google, Facebook or Apple account. You may also choose to log in without a password.

STEP 3. Receive the valid access code confirmation from New York Times.

This may be on-screen or emailed to you. Click Continue.

STEP 4: Set up your profile.

Click Continue setting up to select newsletters that you would like to receive from New York Times. You may opt out by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the individual newsletters.

TIP: If you're using a web browser, open another tab and go to nytimes.com to skip creating a profile. You should already be logged into the site.

STEP 5. Log into nytimes.com during the 72-hour free access period.

Once you set up your profile, you will be logged into New York Times. It is not necessary to redeem another code during the free access period.

 

New York Times - East Coast Late Edition

We also offer access to the East Coast Late Edition of New York Times text-only edition. Log in with your card number and PIN/password for access.

  1. Log in at a library Internet station.
  2. Open a web browser and go sfpl.org. Click the Research & Learn tab, then eMagazines & eNews.
  3. Click New York Times Online (In-Library Access) or go to nytimes.com.
  4. Click Log In and then Sign Up to create an account with your email address, or log in if you already have an account.
  5. Click through 11+ articles during your session to ensure you do not reach the New York Times pay wall.

Using New York Times Digital App

The New York Times app is free and available for the following operating systems:

  • Android
  • iOS
  • Fire tablets

Please visit your device's app store to get the app. Follow the Access outside the library instructions above to access New York Times on the app.

If you're using a mobile device, open your device’s browser to the New York Times page with the remote access link to get the access code, not the New York Times app itself. Then, once you launch the New York Times app and sign in with the email address you used to register, the code will have already been applied.
