Q. How do I access an EPUB/PDF-formatted ebook from Boundless?

TIP: For the best experience, access your Boundless ebook through the native Boundless app or website. Log into your account, then click Read to read your ebook in a web browser or in the app.

Step 1: Install Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) 

Before checking out an EPUB/PDF-formatted eBook from Boundless, you must have the Adobe Digital Editions installed on your PC or your device. If you have not installed ADE, please go to Adobe Digital Editions Downloads.

Step 2: Check out EPUB-formatted ebook from Boundless.

Once ADE is installed, open a web browser and go back to the Boundless website to check out an eBook (hover over the cover of an available title and click "Checkout."). If you are not signed in, you will be prompted to enter your 14-digit library card number and PIN/password. Enter your Boundless profile.

If you are checking the EPUB ebook from the SFPL Catalog (BiblioCommons), select the EPUB format when prompted.

Step 3: Get EPUB ebook via .ACSM file download.

Under the top left menu, click Checkouts and locate your title. Click the three dots next to the title to reveal more options, then click Download. An .ACSM (Adobe Content Server Manager) file will start downloading to your computer or device. Open this file in ADE. 

Step 4: Authorize ADE without an ID for a single device.

If you are only using a single device to access your EPUB ebook, authorize ADE without an ID. When Computer Authorization displays, check the box I want to authorize my computer without an ID in the lower left corner. On the next screen, click Authorize. Your eBook will now load in your Adobe Digital Editions bookshelf. If you want to access your EPUB ebook on multiple devices, register for an Adobe ID then use that ID for every device with ADE.

Step 5: Enjoy your ebook.

Your EPUB ebook will now load in Adobe Digital Editions. Manage your digital loan through Adobe Digital Editions.

Transferring EPUB to eReader without WiFi

Most newer ereaders have WiFi capacity which will allow your eBook to be delivered wirelessly to your device. If your device is older and doesn't have WiFi, you may plug your ereader into your computer and drag and drop your eBook to your device using Adobe Digital Editions.

Returning EPUB Early

Once a digital loan expires, it will automatically return itself to Boundless, so it's not necessary to return an ebook early. But if you want to return the eBook early, right-click on the cover of the title you'd like to return and click Return Borrowed Item. When prompted with Are you sure you want to return this item? click Return. You can now delete the downloaded .ACSM file from your device.

I checked out an EPUB ebook by mistake. How do I return it?

If you've checked out the EPUB format from Boundless by mistake, access your Boundless account from the web to return it. Log in with your 14-digit card number and PIN, locate your title, then click RETURN. Check out the title again to get the Boundless version by default. Now click Read Now button or go to the Boundless app to access your ebook.
